Village Camp Resort Flagstaff — A Campground Review
Location: Flagstaff, Arizona
We've stayed at a lot of RV resorts. A lot. After tens of thousands of miles and well over a hundred campgrounds across the Southwest, we have a pretty solid baseline for what "good" looks like. Village Camp Resort in Flagstaff doesn't just clear that bar — it resets it.
The Setting
Flagstaff sits at the base of the San Francisco Peaks in northern Arizona, surrounded by one of the largest contiguous ponderosa pine forests in the world. The air is cool, the skies are dramatic, and the elevation means you're trading desert heat for genuine mountain weather. Village Camp is tucked right into that landscape — tall pines everywhere, clean mountain air, and the kind of quiet that makes you forget you're in a campground at all.
The property is immaculate. We mean that. Grounds are well-maintained, common areas are tidy, and the overall vibe is more resort than campground. If you're used to the dusty gravel lots that pass for "premium" at some parks, Village Camp will genuinely surprise you.
The Sites
Sites are average width — nothing extraordinary there, and if you're running a wide rig you'll want to check your specific site dimensions before booking. The length, however, is excellent. Long enough to comfortably accommodate full truck-and-fifth-wheel combos without the usual gymnastics of trying to fit everything in. We had zero issues with our setup.
Full hookups, level pads, and easy access. No complaints.
Amenities
This is where Village Camp earns its premium pricing.
Pool & Hot Tub — Top notch. Clean, well-maintained, and modern. The hot tub in particular was impressive — spotless and well-kept.
Pickleball, Tennis & Basketball Courts — All on property and in good shape. If you're the active type, you'll appreciate having options beyond just hiking.
Amphitheater — A beautiful outdoor space that hosts live music on select evenings. There's something special about sitting under the pines with a cold drink and live music drifting through the trees.
Restaurant — On-site dining with pizzas and panini sandwiches. Not a full-service restaurant, but convenient and solid. Good for those nights when you just don't feel like cooking.
Rental Cabins — Village Camp offers cabin rentals for guests who aren't bringing their own rig, making it a great option for friends or family who want to join you without an RV.
Laundry — Kiosk-paid, clean enough. We've seen cleaner, we've definitely seen much worse. Functional and accessible. The property could benefit from a second laundry facility — during busy periods, demand can outpace capacity.
Dog Friendliness
We travel with dogs, so this matters to us. Village Camp has a dog park with three agility items — a nice touch that most parks skip entirely. The dogs loved it. That said, the property could use a second dog park to handle the volume, and the trash cans in the dog area could stand to be emptied more frequently. Minor gripes, but worth noting if you're traveling with pups.
The Staff — The Real Story
Here's the thing about Village Camp that no amenity list can fully capture: the staff.
We have stayed at hundreds of campgrounds and resorts over the years. We have encountered friendly staff, indifferent staff, and everything in between. What we experienced at Village Camp was one of the friendliest staff experiences we've ever had at any RV resort.
Every staff member — every single one — was smiling. Not the polished, corporate-training smile. The real kind. They were engaged, helpful, and seemed to actually enjoy being there. Whether it was someone at the front desk, a groundskeeper walking by, or a team member at the clubhouse, the warmth was consistent and unmistakable.
The clubhouse bar deserves a special mention. The bar team there was exceptional, and we want to give a specific shout-out to Leah. We've met a lot of bartenders over our travels — it comes with the territory — and she was a standout. Attentive, personable, and the kind of person who makes a place feel like a regular spot after one visit. Her whole team brought the same energy.
That level of consistent, genuine hospitality across an entire property is rare. It's the kind of thing that turns a good stay into a memorable one.
Nearby Attractions
Flagstaff is an outstanding base camp for the region. Within easy reach:
- Grand Canyon South Rim — About 80 miles north. A day trip that never gets old.
- Sedona — 30 miles south. Red rock country, world-class hiking, and some of the best scenery in Arizona.
- Walnut Canyon National Monument — Just east of Flagstaff. Ancient cliff dwellings built into the canyon walls by the Sinagua people.
- Wupatki & Sunset Crater National Monuments — A scenic loop north of town through volcanic landscape and ancestral Puebloan ruins.
- Historic Route 66 — Flagstaff sits right on it. The old downtown is worth an afternoon.
- Arizona Snowbowl — Ski resort on the San Francisco Peaks. In summer, the gondola runs for sightseeing and mountain biking.
- Lowell Observatory — Where Pluto was discovered. Stargazing programs run regularly, and at 7,000 feet the skies are exceptional.
The Bottom Line
Village Camp Resort is priced at the premium end of the RV resort spectrum, and it earns that pricing. Beautiful property, excellent amenities, long sites, and a setting that's hard to beat in the Southwest.
On amenities alone, we'd call it a solid four stars. The dog park could use a second location, the laundry could use a second facility, and the trash in the dog area could be emptied more often. These are real observations, not dealbreakers.
But the staff? The staff pushes this to five stars without hesitation. The kind of hospitality we experienced at Village Camp — consistent, genuine, and present at every level of the operation — is genuinely rare. It's the thing we'll remember most, and the reason we'll be back.
Would we recommend it? Absolutely. If you're heading to Flagstaff, put Village Camp on your list.
